Y5 DT Unit

This half term in Year 5 DT, we explored the important topic of nutrition and how to make healthy food choices. The children learned about the different food groups and why a balanced diet is essential for keeping our bodies and minds strong. We also discussed where our food comes from, exploring how ingredients are grown, reared, and transported before they reach our plates. This helped the children understand the journey of food and the importance of making informed and sustainable choices. As part of our learning, we looked at how to read food labels and identify healthier options.

To bring our learning to life, we finished the unit with an exciting cooking session. The children worked brilliantly in teams to prepare their very own vegetarian Bolognese sauce. They practised key skills such as chopping, measuring, and safely using kitchen equipment, while also thinking carefully about the nutritional value of the ingredients they were using and develop a deeper understanding of how simple ingredients can be combined to create a healthy, balanced meal.
